A Birmingham student doing a project on the effects of gun crime and violence has been jailed for two years - after he was caught with a firearm.
Jordan Preece (21) of Old Croft House, Aston University Campus, pleaded guilty at the City's crown court to charges of assault and possessing an imitation firearm.
Victoria Green, prosecuting, said in November last year Preece intervened in an argument between Mr Nikunjh Modha and his girlfriend.
Preece punched Mr Modha before leaving the scene. Later Preece returned but this time with an imitation pistol hidden up his sleeve.
