A new guide aimed at making the rat-running lorry a thing of the past has been published.
The first West Midlands Lorry Drivers' Guide is a free 'A-to-Z' guide that will make it easier for drivers unfamiliar with the region to get around.
It sets out a wide range of useful information for drivers coming to the West Midlands, including the location of industrial estates/retail parks, preferred routes to industrial estates and other key delivery areas including shopping centres like Merry Hill, as well as a comprehensive list of weight and height restrictions
It will be available free from the main freight industry organisations including the Road Haulage Association and the Freight Transport Association. Councillor Les Kyles, chairman of the West Midlands Planning and Transport Sub-Committee, said: "This new lorry guide will really help those goods move more quickly and more efficiently.
"It's not just lorry drivers who'll feel the benefits, we all will."
The West Midlands Lorry Guide is being published as a joint venture by all seven metropolitan authorities - Coventry, Birmingham, Sandwell, Dudley, Wolverhampton, Solihull and Walsall - and is an initiative of the West Midlands Freight Quality Partnership between the metropolitan areas, the Highways Agency and the freight industry.
