A security guard was shot yesterday after armed robbers raided a cash delivery van as it arrived at a post office.

The man, who has not yet been named, was rushed to hospital with gunshot injuries after the armed men targeted the shop in Rednal, North Worcestershire, just before noon.

The gang fled Old Birmingham Road in a Mitsubishi Evolution but crashed into a pub just 200 yards down the road.

They then threatened the driver of a grey Rover before stealing his car.

No one else was injured in the incident and police said it was too early to reveal how much money the robbers got away with.

DCI Sean Paley, from Bromsgrove police, said: "A grey Mitsubishi Evolution with 05 plates believed to contain four people was then seen driving erratically towards the Bristol Road.

"This vehicle crashed at the Poachers Pocket pub a short distance away. The driver of a grey Rover was then threatened and the car stolen.

"We are appealing to anyone who was near the post office in Rednal at around midday and noticed anything that might be connected to this incident to give us a call."
