Fenner's (second day): Warwickshire 383-6 dec. and 215-1 dec., Cambridge University 204 and 8-1.

Tim Groenewald, Jim Troughton and Chris Woakes were the principal contributors for Warwickshire yesterday when the visitors capitalised on their first-day batting feast against Cambridge UCCC to bring hope of victory today.

Groenewald, the pace bowler whose season has started less well than expected, took five wickets for 24 off only nine overs in Cambridge UCCE's first innings of 204.

A ninth-wicket partnership of 86 frustrated the visitors as Kamal Jogia saw his team beyond 200 by reaching a meritorious 104 not out off 163 deliveries and with 11 fours. Will O'Driscoll was his partner in that late-innings defiance, his 34 being the second-best score. Jogia's century arrived after he had faced 157 balls.

Warwickshire, with a first-inings lead of 179, scored at a faster rate than in their first innings, scoring 215 for one wicket declared off only 39 overs. Navdeep Poonia retired himself out upon reaching 50, with the total 66, before Troughton reached 90 not out and Woakes scored 64 when Luke Parker declared the innings closed with his team having an overall lead of 394.

Stuart Hole took the only wicket to fall in the students' second innings. The match ends today.
