A leading Midlands theme park is to open its gates to hundreds of naturists in the first event of its kind in Britain later this year.
Organisers expect between 1,000 and 1,500 members of all ages will take part in The British Naturism Weekend at Alton Towers, in Staffordshire, on November 17 to 19.
Although the popular theme park's rides will be closed, naturists will have full run of both Alton Towers and Splash Landings hotels, its waterpark and spa, and are expected to occupy most, if not all, the 391 rooms.
Bosses at the top tourist attraction approached British Naturism about holding the event as they felt the organisation was "limited" in terms of venues for such events.
A spokeswoman said: "They are very limited to a small number of caravan parks and beaches and we didn't see why they should be, which is why we asked if they wanted to organise an event here."
The British Naturism brochure states that people will have "no need to wear clothes" for the weekend, which will also include exhibitions, a disco, treasure hunt and various other activities.
Ian Parkinson, general manager of Alton Towers' hotel complex, said: "This is a fabulous opportunity for both British Naturism and Alton Towers to come together to provide a really special weekend.
"If it works - and we will be putting in a 150 per cent effort into making it so - it could become an annual event."
While this weekend break is only open to the organisation's members, a similar event is also being planned for next June at the Eden Project, in Cornwall, where naturists will be able to go naked alongside the public.
Andrew Marsh, from British Naturism, said: "This is will be the first time British Naturism will have staged a weekend like this, and I understand it's a first for Alton Towers too.
"The naturism scene in Britain is growing, a recent survey showed about one million people have tried it, usually while on holiday, and we currently have 16,000-strong membership.
"People don't have to be naked at this event but those who choose to remain clothed will find they are the odd ones out, and in most cases they may opt to go au naturel as well."
