A two- year- old girl drowned in a pond at her family's farm.

Rachel Nuttall fell into the pond at Higher Eden Farm on Elton Road, Belthorn, Lancashire.

Her body was found at around 9.15pm on Sunday night.

A Lancashire Police spokeswoman said: "There are no suspicious circumstances. This seems to be a very tragic accident."

The emergency services were called when her body was found and she was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary, but was declared dead.

The police spokeswoman said: "It appears that Rachel wandered off while playing with her two older siblings.

"She was found in a pond in a field at the rear of the farm. She was taken to hospital but very sadly died.

"We have contacted her family this morning but they are in no position to speak. They are absolutely devastated. They are distraught."

Rachel's uncle made a brief statement on behalf of her parents Andrew and Suzanne Nuttall.

John Boyes said: "The whole family are devastated at what has happened. We are too upset to talk to anyone and ask that we are allowed to grieve in peace."
