Up to 350,000 people are allergic to their own sweat, research has suggested.

Anti-histamine manufacturers Piriton disclosed the figures in a report into the impact of allergies in the UK.

According to the report, 954,000 believe they are allergic to Christmas trees, and 222,000 say photocopier toner provokes a reaction.

Pollen is by far the biggest problem, and is responsible for symptoms in 6,690,000 people.

Other unusual triggers include breath spray, nail varnish fumes, dry ice and windscreen wiper fluid.

The report also says 1,220,000 people have cancelled meeting friends because of their allergies.
