A gas fitter who conned customers across the Midlands while carrying out a series of botched jobs must pay out £55,000 or face a jail sentence.
Mark Gall, branded the 'gas fitter from hell', who put lives at risk while lying that he was qualified to carry out the work, was jailed in the summer for two and a half years at Birmingham Crown Court.
Yesterday at the city's crown court Judge Martin Cardinal ordered he pay the sum, which included costs of almost £24,000 and a confiscation amount for more than £27,000, or he would go to jail for a further 18 months.
Gall (39), of Martingale Close, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, who admitted charges of theft and forgery, was given 15 months to pay.
It is anticipated Gall will meet the order by selling his house.
