More than 500 workers at a Black Country company were returning yesterday from a luxury weekend in Spain which was paid for by their generous boss.
Bob Edmiston, one of the Midlands richest men, spent more than £750,000 on the staff holiday to mark the 30th anniversary of his West Bromwich-based IM Group.
It laid on three aircraft, including its own chartered 290-seater Boeing 767-200, to fly 550 employees to Spain.
Birmingham International Airport organised four check-in desks for the workforce, which left on Friday. Employees stayed at the five-star Torrequebrada hotel in Benalmadena on the Costa del Sol. Mr Edmiston was placed seventh in this year's Birmingham Post Rich List with an estimated fortune of £520 million.
He said there was a "work element" to the trip, as there was a conference exploring future plans by the company, but it was "an opportunity to say 'thank you' to everyone".
"We always have a big Christmas party and have marked special landmarks like our fifth and tenth anniversaries and so on. But this one is a bit special," he added.
West Bromwich-based IM Group imports Subarus, Daihatsus and Isuzus and has a successful property and development arm. The company leaves its West Bromwich base for new headquarters off the M42 at Coleshill later this year.
