Family and friends have paid an emotional farewell to 16-year-old Aiden Brookes, who died after part of a cave roof collapsed on him during a camping trip.

More than 400 mourners gathered at St Mary’s Church in Bridgnorth. Cadets from Bridgnorth Air Training Corps formed a guard of honour as Aiden’s coffin was carried in.

His family followed behind as a song by one of the A-level student’s favourite bands, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, was played.

Aiden, who was studying at Oldbury Wells School, had been camping with friends on April 5 at Hermitage Caves, in Bridgnorth, when some of the sandstone roof fell on him.

Parents Kirsty and Ashley Brookes, of Paulbrook Road, Bridgnorth, said in a statement: “Aiden was everything you could hope for from a son.”
