Dear Editor, Yesterday’s long-awaited announcement by the European Investment Bank of much-needed funds for Jaguar Land Rover couldn’t have come soon enough.

The funds, which will be directed at JLR’s already superb research and development arm, will secure the company’s future as a leading manufacturer of the next generation of green and efficient car technology.

There is some worry that the funds announced by the EIB will not be enough, and that the green strings attached to this money will hamper JLR’s recovery. Yet Gordon Brown’s announcement today of plans for a green budget hit the nail right on the head. The incentive to go green is imperative. It may not be easy, but businesses that crack the questions posed by climate change will be set to lead the world.

I’m delighted that after months of hard work and wrangling, JLR’s commitment to sustainable technology has been given the recognition it deserves.
