Representatives of charities, organisations and companies this week celebrated the completion of Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s new Burn, Neonatal and Education Centre.
A plaque thanking donors for raising £500,000 for the hospital’s Red Balloon Appeal, backed by The Birmingham Post, to complete the £19 million centre was unveiled by chief executive Paul O’Connor and Burn Centre lead nurse Claire Thomas.
The plaque included a balloon which read: “Grateful thanks to everyone whose generosity helped to make this building possible”, surrounded by clouds featuring the names of the campaign’s principle donors such as West Bromwich Building Society, Good Year Dunlop and RBS Natwest.
Barbara Wellford, the hospital’s executive campaign manager, said: “It was a thank-you event and to invite them to celebrate the completion. We managed to raise this money in two years and it is thanks to the generosity of charitable people and just what a special place the hospital has in people’s hearts.”
The centre was officially opened by the Earl of Wessex in February.
