Four people have been taken to hospital after the car they were in suffered massive damage when it crashed in Smethwick.

The crash happened in Windmill Lane at about 4.15pm on Monday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When the first ambulance arrived, they immediately requested the fire service attend due to the level of damage to the car.

“There was a broken fence nearby and the car had also struck a tree.

“Despite the car being very badly damaged, the three men and a woman managed to get out of the vehicle.

“The three men were all immobilised using neck collars and spinal boards.  One of them also had a badly broken arm.  All three were taken to City Hospital.

“The woman had minor injuries but also travelled to City Hospital.

“Ambulance staff said the four were extremely lucky not to have suffered more serious injuries given the level of damage to the car.”
