Birmingham striker Mikael Forssell has denied he failed a medical at Everton before opting for a move to St Andrews.

Forssell completed a #3million move to Blues from Chelsea last week and has claimed the midlands club were always his first choice.

Everton had been in the bidding for Forssell but reportedly pulled out over the knee injury which saw him miss most of last season.

But the 24-year-old, who has recovered from surgery on the injury, told the club website: "It is not true, I did not fail a medical.

"I know my medical records were sent to Everton when I was in discussions with the club over a move to Goodison Park.

"But as soon as I heard about Birmingham's interest then there was only one club I wanted to join and those records were returned to Blues.

"So at no point did I undertake a full medical at Everton and these stories that I failed a medical are complete fabrication."
