National One outfit Stourbridge have pulled off a massive coup by signing Thinus Delport as a player coach.

The 35-year-old has agreed a 12 month deal that sees him assume control of the club's backs while - media commitments permitting - also offering his services as a full back cum wing.

The former Worcester and Gloucester legend enjoyed an outstanding playing career that brought him 18 caps for South Africa.

He ended his playing days at Sixways in 2008 after 109 appearances in the Blue and Gold and did so as a club legend.

Since then he has been out of the sport and worked as an expert analyst with BSkyB but he is ready to return to rugby with what is his first coaching role.

His arrival further strengthens the links between Worcester and Stourbridge and comes just days after former Warrior prop Tony Windo was named as head coach at Stourton Park.

"It is an excellent signing," said director of rugby Neil Mitchell. "We have had a migration of players since the end of the season so we needed to be a little bit more ambitious in our direction as a club.

"The arrival of Tony Windo and Thinus Delport give us a platform to continue building a side that can really challenge for promotion.

"Thinus' experience as a coach is very limited but the presence of a multi-cap Springbok will be extremely beneficial at this level both on the pitch and off it."
