A former headmaster, from Staffordshire, has appeared in court accused of sexually assaulting two children almost 40 years ago.

Derek Slade, who worked at a private school in East Anglia, is charged with buggery, indecent assault and gross indecency during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Slade was also accused of possession of indecent images and possession of a false identity document.

The 60-year-old from Burton-on-Trent appeared before magistrates in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on March 2.
