With American billionaire Randy Lerner having had a takeover bid accepted by Aston Villa, The Birmingham Post looks at a selection of other football clubs owned by foreigners:
Roman Abramovich arrived at Stamford Bridge three years ago and Chelsea have assembled a squad with the Russian's money. Have recently signed Andriy Shevchenko for £30 million.
Vladimir Romanov first stepped into the limelight early last year and there has been controversy at Tynecastle since. George Burley and Graham Rix departed as managers last season and there were accusations of Romanov picking the team.
Alexandre Gaydamak recently took full control of Portsmouth after agreeing a deal for chairman Milan Mandaric's remaining shares. Boss Harry Red-knapp was reported to have around £30 million to spend on new players.
* MANCHESTER UNITED:
Malcolm Glazer, owner of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, took over at Old Trafford amid huge protests from fans, who believe the club's future is in danger due to the money borrowed to buy United. Future success will reveal if the takeover was wise.
