Part of Bromsgrove is to remain cordoned off for 24 hours following a vehicle fire in a garage near the centre of the town, police have announced.

More than 100 people have been evacuated from their homes in the area around Ednall Lane due to concerns that gas canisters caught up in the blaze could explode.

Police are now working with county and district emergency planning officers to deal with the situation.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area and if possible use alternative routes.

Chief Inspector Charlie Hill said: "Our policing services are continuing as normal and plans have been put in place following the evacuation of the police station."
