A Ghanaian teenager and his father who were flown to Britain by a Midland-based charity were doing well after having a live kidney transplant at a Birmingham hospital at the weekend.

Felix Yeboah's testimony at a medical conference in Ghana last November touched the hearts of several transplant specialists, including Andrew Ready, consultant renal transplant surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Edgbaston.

The 14-year-old and his father and donor, Michael Yeboah, were brought to Britain by Transplant Links - which aims to teach medics in developing countries about transplantation - for the life-saving surgery.

After nearly five hours in theatre yesterday, Mr Ready said both Felix and his father, who are recovering in the Edgbaston Suite in order not to impact on NHS resources, were doing well.
