Police yesterday released the names of two teenagers killed when their car smashed into a tree.

Warwickshire Police said James Pugh, aged 18, and 17-year-old Rory Harrigan, were both dead at the scene of the accident in Kineton late on Saturday.

The force is also investigating a separate accident five miles away in which a 16-year-old girl died.

A police spokesman confirmed that the second crash happened at 12.45pm on Sunday on the A422 at Ettington, near Stratford-upon-Avon. The two teenagers killed in the first incident were in a silver Renault Megane when it crashed off Banbury Road, Kineton, at about 9.45pm.

Mr Pugh, from Darlow Drive, Stratford, was driving the Megane, while Mr Harrigan, from Church Street, Shipston, was in the front passenger seat.

Another passenger, an 18-year-old male from Banbury, Oxford-shire, was taken to Warwick Hospital with head injuries and later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, where his condition was described as stable.

A silver Toyota Yaris was travelling in front of the Megane and officers want information about both vehicles.

Anyone who can offer information should call Pc Scott Good on 01926 415000.

The second fatal accident involved a blue Vauxhall Vectra. A 20-year-old man from Banbury was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. The 16-year-old who died was from the Stratford area.
