The family of two-month-old Mohammed Isa have issued the below tribute in memory of the baby boy, who died following a road traffic collision on Saturday in Smethwick.

His uncle Khalid Hussain said: "The family of Mohammed Isa are heartbroken over the tragic loss of their son.

"He was a gentle natured beautiful boy who gave all his family so much joy in the brief time he was with them"

Mohammed was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the collision on Grove Lane at the junction with Painters Corner shortly after 6pm on Saturday. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

A silver Mitsubishi Evolution, registration R54 RMW, was travelling along the dual carriageway towards Oldbury when it was in collision with a silver Toyota Corolla.

Mohammed was travelling in the Corolla. A woman from the same vehicle remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

Three further people, two men and a woman, from the Corolla also remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The driver and passengers of the Mitsubishi left the scene before the police arrived following the collision.

A 31-year-old man from the Smethwick area remains in custody following his arrest on Monday for causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision.

Three men who are believed to have been travelling in the Mitsubishi have been interviewed by police.

Inspector Mark Watkins, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We continue to appeal for witnesses, in particular anybody who saw the silver Mitsubishi travelling along Grove Lane prior to the collision.

"The community response to media appeals has been tremendous and officers have spoken to a number of witnesses.

"Anyone with any information is urged to come forward urgently to help us with our enquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 0345 113 5000 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
