The husband of a woman found hanged at the Birmingham school where she worked said it had devastated the family.
The body of Patricia Gregan was found inside caretaker Wayne Green's house on Monday just after children had started their lessons at Harborne Primary School.
Mrs Gregan, aged 46, was believed to have been suffering from depression and was said to have previously taken time off work as a result.
The mother-of-two, who is survived by husband Kevin and two adult children, carried out a range duties at the mixed school, which has 630 pupils, such as collecting dinner money.
An inquest is scheduled to take place at Birmingham Coroner's Court on Tuesday.
Speaking from the family home in Longbridge, Birmingham, Mr Gregan, 47, said: "My children are in bits about their mum's death.
"The poor woman was ill and now my family are having to deal with the stigma of her suicide. All I know is that she was found in the caretaker's house."
Next door neighbour Frederick Russell added: "She was a really nice lady but she has not been right since her mother died a few years ago.
"The lane we live on is very sad and I know Kevin is really devastated, as are her two grown-up children.
"We don't know how she came to be found in the caretaker's house."
Wayne Green refused to comment yesterday. West Midlands Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
