Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers were drawn together in the third round of the FA Cup the day after the pair shared the spoils in an engrossing Coca-Cola Championship clash at Molineux.

It will be the fourth time that the clubs have faced each other in the competition, Wolves holding the upper hand with three victories.

The third round clash is due to be played on the weekend of January 3 and 4, with Blues saying the likelier date being the Saturday.

There was another West Midlands derby provided in the draw as Kidderminster Harriers were rewarded for their 2-0 victory over Curzon Ashton with a trip to Coventry City.

By contrast, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion were given less than glamorous opposition and must await the outcome of second round replays, although both will be pleased with the chance to make progress.

Albion will play either Peterborough United or Tranmere Rovers, while Villa, the last club to come out of the bowl, await a trip to the winners of the Gillingham versus Stockport County tie.

Histon’s stunning victory over Leeds United did not bring them the rewards they were hoping for. The Blue Square Premier promotion chasers were 1-0 winners over Coca-Cola League One giants United in the second round but were visibly disappointed to be handed a home tie with Swansea City as they watched the live draw.

Fellow non-Leaguers Blyth Spartans will host Premier League side Blackburn Rovers if they win their replay against Bournemouth.

FA Cup holders Portsmouth were drawn at home to Bristol City while Liverpool will travel to Preston North End, Manchester United face a trip to Southampton, Chelsea host Southend United and Arsenal entertain Plymouth Argyle.
