Mike Ruddock has signed London Irish fly half Eoghan Hickey on a six week loan after Worcester's injury crisis worsened.

The Warriors director of rugby has lost Loki Crichton to a heel injury for more than a month and so moved to bring in a player he courted in the summer.

Hickey, who rejected a permanent move to Sixways earlier this year, will go straight into the squad for this weekend's European Challenge Cup match with Bourgoin.

"We have an unusual number of injuries at the moment particularly in the backs so we looked at whether we needed some cover," Ruddock explained.

"Loki Crichton went down this week with some bad news, an MRI scan has told us he is going to be out for four or five weeks with a heel problem. That told us we needed someone to come in and give us some help on loan.

"Eoghan is a proven player, he has played a number of games in the Premiership, he has played Heineken Cup rugby, he has played Ireland A, Munster and Leinster and is part of a very successful London Irish team.

"He is likely to figure this weekend. We have managed to get his registration sorted so he will figure in the 22."
