A fund which has invested in several digital projects in the West Midlands is set to disappear.
Channel 4’s 4iP fund, which coinvests alongside regional screen agency Screen WM, is to close as part of a restructure at the broadcaster.
It was set up in July 2008 to invest in innovative new projects and allow companies to experiment with digital media business models.
Beneficiaries of the funding in the region include Help Me Investigate, a website set up to help people collaborate on investigating issues such as election campaign expenses and the cost of Birmingham City Council’s website.
Yoosk, a website where people can put questions to MPs, also received 4iP funding.
Screen WM said the fund had always been a pilot project which was due to come to an end next month.
Screen WM chief executive Suzie Norton said: “4iP has been a huge success in its pilot phase, which now provides Screen WM with fantastic building blocks onto which we can continue to grow the West Midlands’ digital companies in this new era.
“Channel 4 is committed to working with the West Midlands and Screen WM and we look forward to working with them in this next phase.”
Screen WM jointly invested in 4iP projects through its Digital Media Fund, supported by soon-to-be scrapped regional development agency Advantage West Midlands.
