An Emirates jet was at the centre of a recovery operation after getting stuck on a grass verge shortly after landing at Birmingham Airport.

The flight from Dubai, which had been diverted to Birmingham because of disruption at London's Heathrow Airport, made a routine landing but strayed on to the soft verge while taxiing to a terminal building.

A spokesman for Birmingham Airport said the aircraft, a Boeing 777 with 282 passengers on board, touched down at 1.54pm.

"Whilst proceeding to the terminal, the aircraft inadvertently taxied on to the grass verge," the spokesman said.

"The recovery team is on site and efforts are being made to move the aircraft. The passengers are now being transferred to the terminal."

The incident is not thought to be weather-related at this stage, the spokesman added.
