Aston Villa chairman Doug Ellis has claimed that Villa's board are unanimous in their support of David O'Leary.
A board meeting on Mond ay rubber-stamped O'Leary's fourth season at the Villa Park helm and the octogenarian chairman admitted: "There has been a lot of hard talking over the last week. It was the board's unanimous decision to back the manager.
"No one can pretend that last season's outcome was a nything other than extremely disappointing and I understand why supporters have been frustrated through a difficult season but myself and the board are convinced that better times lie ahead."
O'Leary was equally bullish in his approach to the forthcoming campaign and is yearning to banish the memories of an insipid season.
He said: "I am determined to show that this season's struggles were a one-off and should be put firmly behind us. No one should doubt my commitment to getting it right and the discussions we've had make me more convinced than ever that we'll prove the critics wrong next season."
