It sometimes takes the tiniest spark to start the biggest fire.

Just as the price of a baguette is said to have been the catalyst for the French revolution (it's perhaps just as well Robespierre and his chums aren't around to see the price of a cup of coffee and croissant in Paris these days), the apparently prosaic matter of car parking could yet provide such a spark at Edgbaston.

While Warwickshire's chief executive Colin Povey and his cohorts are likely to escape the guillotine, there is a growing sense of unrest among the club's members which could come to the surface at tonight's members' forum.

A portion of the club's membership is unhappy that they will, in future, be charged #3 every time they use their car park. On top of a 15 per cent rise in the cost of voting membership, a disappointing season on the pitch and rumours of dressing room discontent, the seemingly modest charge is, for some, the straw that has broken the camel's back.

Just how strong the coterie of discontented members is remains unclear. Judging by the quantity — and quality — of letters, emails and phone calls to this newspaper, it is not insubstantial, however.

A full-scale revolt remains most unlikely, but the club's officials on the panel tonight — Povey, Mark Greatbatch (director of cricket), Heath Streak (captain), James McLaughlin (commercial director) and John Claughton (chairman of the cricket committee) — could face some uncomfortable moments. They remain confident, however, that a full presentation of the facts will appease the vast majority. They are probably right.

The meeting begins at 7pm in the pavilion dining room — not the players' dining room as stated last week.
