Former Warwickshire chief executive Dennis Amiss has won the election to become the new deputy chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board after winning a ballot against Lancashire chairman Jack Simmons.

The ex-England batsman, who won by one vote in a poll of the county chairmen and the MCC, will now be put forward to the 41 members of the ECB for endorsement over the next fortnight.

The term of office of the ECB deputy chairman will run until March 31, 2010.
