Rail passengers have been warned to expect delays over Easter as two companies replace services with buses to carry out vital maintenance work.

Virgin Trains and Chiltern Railways are to carry out track improvement work and have warned passengers that many services will be affected.

Chiltern Railways said changes to scheduled services this Saturday and Sunday would take place due to routine maintenance carried out by Network Rail and ongoing work on the installation of a new £700,000 footbridge at Kings Sutton station.

Services will be affected between Kidderminster and London Marylebone, with buses replacing trains between Dorridge and Bicester North and direct buses running between Stratford-upon-Avon, Banbury and Bicester North for connecting trains to London Marylebone.

Some later services from Birmingham Snow Hill will be replaced by buses between D orridge and London Marylebone.

Virgin trains will carry out rail engineering work to complete the upgrade of the West Coast Main Line over the Easter holiday from April 14 until April 18.

Coach shuttle services will replace Virgin West Coast and Virgin CrossCountry trains for parts of their journeys in some areas, and some trains will be diverted.
