Reports from Holland claim Aston Villa are close to signing defensive midfielder Karim El Ahmadi Arrousi in a deal thought to be worth about £2 million.
Dutch websites say El Ahmadi Arrousi is set to become new manager Paul Lambert's first signing, and would plug a key gap at Villa, who struggled in central midfield for much of last season, particularly after captain Stilyan Petrov was diagnosed with leukemia.
The 27-year-old currently plays for Feyenoord in Holland. He is Dutch-born, but of Moroccan descent, and has played more than 170 games in the top flight in the Netherlands and 10 times for Morocco.
His career started at FC Twente, where he played 89 games, scoring three goals, before moving to Feyenoord for close to £3 million and playing 94 times, scoring on four occasions.
He spent part of last season on loan at Al-Ahli in Dubai.
El Ahmadi was entering the final year of his five-year deal with Feyenoord.
He played for the Dutch national youth teams, but opted to represent Morocco at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in the Netherlands.
