Water levels could remain critical in the region until early next month with the Met office predicting dry conditions for the foreseeable future.

Forecaster Helen Chivers said that, while rain will fall in Birmingham in the coming days, it would not be in large amounts.

Although rain is due at the end of the month, it was unclear how much would fall.

Ms Chivers said: “It looks like the dry weather will carry on for some little while yet. Towards the end of the month we could start to see spells of wet and windy weather coming across the Midlands.

“Temperatures will be near normal and as we go into December it looks like we will see spells of rain and, if there are clear skies, we could see a touch of frost.”

She said the mild autumn had been caused by high pressure coming from the Mediterranean, bringing with it warmer weather than usual from Spain and the South of France.
