A disqualified driver who deliberately reversed into a police car during a high speed chase in Birmingham has been sent to a young offenders institution for 21 months.
Timothy Cole (19), of Pelham Road, Alum Rock, who admitted charges of aggravated vehicle taking, destroying property, and driving while disqualified, was also banned from the roads for two years.
In passing sentence at Birmingham Crown Court, Judge David McCarthy said: "It is a mercy that neither you, or your passengers, or the police, or any other person was injured or killed."
Rob Cowley, prosecuting, said when, in the early hours of the morning police, tried to carry out a check on a Vauxhall Astra in Edgbaston the vehicle the sped off.
Mr Cowley said at one point the Astra stopped and when the police vehicle came up behind it the Astra then reversed into the police car probably in a bid to bring the chase to an end by activating the airbag. He said the chase ended when the Astra hit a bollard and that Cole and two passengers then fled from the vehicle.
