A disqualified driver who demolished a lamppost and drove the wrong way along a Birmingham dual carriageway while chased by police has been jailed for 22 months and banned for seven years.
Sentencing David Hodges, who had been over the alcohol limit, Judge David Matthews said: "This was on any view a quite appalling piece of dangerous driving.
"It is an absolute miracle no one was seriously hurt or killed."
The judge said Hodges had a "dreadful" driving record and added: "You are an absolute menace to other road users. I regret the present state of the law does not enable me to deal with you more seriously."
