Victims of domestic abuse in Solihull are to be given help transporting their belongings to a safe place.

Council workers and officers from West Midlands Police will visit people who wish to rebuild their lives but do not have the resources to leave a relationship.

The pilot scheme, being rolled out by the Domestic Violence Practice and Information Group over the next three months, will be expanded if it proves successful.

The working group from Solihull's Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) found victims of domestic abuse who live in Solihull and wish to leave a violent relationship have difficulty finding affordable transport.

The project has been launched in response to figures which show Solihull Community Housing received 143 homelessness applications as a result of domestic abuse. Victims can book an appointment for the removal to take place.

The service will be provided by Solihull Community Transport and will run until November 30. Some of the funding is being provided by the John Lewis store.
