The team from DJD, which has its Birmingham operation in Brindleyplace, took the Major Project Award at the British Construction Industry Awards after the managing an almost complete redesign and rebuild of the award-winning Royal Shakespeare Theatre – home of the Royal Shakespeare Company – in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Stephen Hing, project manager for Drivers Jonas Deloitte and head of project management for the RSC transformation, said: “The Royal Shakespeare Theatre project has been a very ambitious and complex project to marry the best elements of the existing buildings, with a brief to deliver a world leading new auditorium alongside first class backstage and audience facilities.

“It is testament to the hard work, commitment and excellent working relationships demonstrated across this diverse project team that this iconic theatrical site reopened without a hitch, on schedule, on budget with full productions in February 2011.”

The project is one of two from the Drivers Jonas Deloitte advisory portfolio that won awards at the event, the other being The Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award for the Veoldrome, at the Olympic Park.
