Police in a Birmingham district are to use new powers to crack down on yobs who cause misery for residents.

Officers will be able to disperse groups of youths in Weoley Castle who are causing a nuisance to others by using new regulations under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003.

Following authorisation between the police and the local authority, officers now have the power to arrest anyone in a group of two or more people who is acting unruly and refuses to disperse.

The dispersal orders will run until July 31, when they will be reviewed.

Pc Mark Lamb, from Hillwood Road police base, said: "The orders mean we can escort under-16s home if they live within the dispersal area and ask others to disperse. Failing to can result in arrest."
