Diamonds worth thousands of pounds were stolen from a Birmingham dealership after thieves switched the stones for a box of sweets.

About £160,000-worth of diamonds were stolen when a man and woman visited a shop in the Jewellery Quarter to pay for an order of stones on March 7, West Midlands Police said.

A spokesman said: "During a distraction, a second box of diamonds, worth £160,000, were switched with a box of sweets."

The pair, who then left, visited the dealership on Spencer Street, Hockley, two days earlier.

Police are keen to speak to a 66-year-old Russian man, Ansor Megrelishvili, and an unknown woman in connection with the matter.
