One of the country’s best-known business journalists has signed up to host the inaugural Birmingham Post Business Awards.
Declan Curry, who currently hosts Working Lunch, will compare the event at Birmingham’s ICC on September 20.
The Ulsterman, who has reported on business matters for 15 years, has gained a reputation for his insight and accessibility during which time he has enjoyed a host of roles from broadcasting live from the London Stock Exchange to dispensing market analysis and gossip for the American network ABC News.
He is extremely well known to British viewers and listeners as the distinctive and authoritative voice of business, reporting for radio and for breakfast and lunchtime TV.
He said: “I am honoured to have been invited to host the Birmingham Post Business Awards. The West Midlands is a crucial region in the UK business community and Birmingham is a vibrant city with a diverse range of small, medium and large enterprises, many of which have continued to innovate and prosper during the difficult economic climate. The Birmingham Post Business Awards will rightly acknowledge and celebrate these businesses and the people that work within them.”
Nominations open on Monday (April 5) for the awards that will see the best companies from across 11 sectors recognised for their performance over the past 12 months.
The awards sectors include Marketing & Communication, Property & Estate Management, Legal & Business Advisory, Finance & Investment, Environment & Sustainable, Manufacturing, Science & Technology, Creative, Export & International Trade, Training & Development, SME & Business Start-Up and Company of the Year.
The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges made up of some of the biggest names in the region’s business community.
Birmingham Post editor Alun Thorne said the event promises to be one of the highlights of the city’s social calendar.
