Police in Staffordshire are appealing for witnesses after a man was killed in a road accident involving five cars.

Keith Botten aged 63, of The Saplings, Penkridge, was pronounced dead at the scene after his green Mazda convertible MX5 was in collision with a silver Peugeot 206 on the A449 at Dunston near Penkridge yesterday morning.

Another three cars travelling towards Penkridge were involved in the crash - a red Ford Fiesta, a green Volvo 760 estate, and a red convertible Mini Cooper.

The drivers of the other four vehicles were taken to Stafford Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

Two people from Stafford were arrested following the accident. A 55-year old man was last night being held in custody in Cannock and a 34-year-old woman was taken to Stafford. The A449 from junction 13 to Penkridge was closed from 8.05am until

12.45pm as police carried out investigations at the scene.

Sergeant John McCreedy said: "This collision happened when many people would have been travelling to work. We are very keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this collision."
