Lichfield, leaders of the Coaching Solutions League for a long period of the season, won their final match on Saturday to clinch the title and promotion to the national league next season.

They triumphed 4- 3 against Olton, their main challengers until the latter stages of the season, in a tense match where fortunes swung both ways. Lichfield's leading scorer, Mark Blanksby, hit the opening goal after ten minutes but Olton struck back to lead 3-1, but by halftime the scores were level.

Late in the second half Martin Dean scored the second of his two goals to clinch victory to the delight of the large crowd.

It was a disappointment for Harborne who in recent weeks had moved up the table to joint second place and were in sight of the title had Lichfield, who had suffered a lean spell since Christmas, been beaten by Olton.

But Harborne were pipped 5-4 by West Bridgford, the other title contender, and finished in fourth place below Chesterfield, who defeated relegated Shrewsbury 4-1. Worcester, beaten 3-1 by Sikh Union (Nottingham) are also relegated.
