Chancellor Gordon Brown spoke yesterday of the joy of becoming a father again and said: "It's the best thing that ever happened to me."
The beaming Chancellor spoke the day after his wife, Sarah, gave birth to their second son.
And he revealed the baby boy is to be called James Fraser.
The Chancellor was happy and relaxed as he chatted to reporters for five minutes about the birth at the Simpson's Memorial Maternity Unit, where, he said, his wife Sarah is doing well.
He said: "Our son John is incredibly happy about it. He's looking for someone to play football with, I think.
"I just love being a dad. It's the most important thing you do and it's the best thing that's ever happened to me.
"We've got a wonderful addition to our family. We've now got two great, marvellous boys."
