Credit card junkies beware as BBC 3's hit show, Spendaholics, is coming to Birmingham today in a search for contestants for its second series.
Whether it be cars, shoes or food, everyone has an extravagance and the team behind Spendaholics will be hunting for people in the city centre all day today in an attempt to bring them on the show and help them curb their spending.
This year it is estimated that the amount of money owed by British consumers has broken the £1 trillion barrier with more than £1,000 billion of that on credit cards.
Spendaholics is hosted by shopping and lifestyle expert Jan Hunt and psychological coach and self-help author, Benjamin Fry.
While Jan offers the contestants practical tips on how to use money more effectively, Benjamin provides a psychological makeover for the individuals and scrutinises the underlying emotional issues which force people to overspend.
Benjamin said: " I want to peel back the reasoning behind people's spending.
"They don't go out to get in to debt, they just get to the point where it gets out of hand and they need aid. "
If chosen as contestants, the show's experts will assess the individual's financial problem and identify the problem areas.
A seven day 'cold turkey' period then ensues in an attempt to kick-start their road to financial recovery. n Anyone interested in trying out for the show and available for interview today ring 07887
