A clutch of creative projects across the West Midlands received more than £200,000 from Arts Council England yesterday.
A total of 29 arts initiatives benefited from the latest round of grants funded by the Government and National Lottery.
Every year the group's regional Grants for the Arts programme hands out more than £5 million to schemes in the region.
The successful projects, which have received a total of £200,933, range from arts activities to supporting artists' professional development.
Among those sharing the payout is Derek Nisbet, a Coventry-based composer and filmmaker who is best known for his work with Talking Birds.
He has been awarded funding to enable him to research and develop a new dance-film work in collaboration with the Swedish- based Lisa Torun Dance Company.
Sally Luton, regional executive director of Arts Council England West Midlands, said: "These awards support a wide range of arts activity across the region, opening up new opportunities for people and communities to participate in and experience the arts.
"We are happy to be able to fund so many projects of a high quality and these awards represent an investment in the arts for children and young people, individual artists, the arts in regeneration and the wider arts provision."
