A plane had to make an emergency landing at Birmingham Airport today after a crack was discovered in a window.

The Bmi Baby jet, carrying 76 passengers and five crew members, was travelling from Belfast when a crack was spotted in a side window.

The incident meant that flight WW1022 touched down at Terminal One at 9.30am, 10 minutes before it was due to arrive.  Fire crews at the airport were put on standby.

A spokesman for Bmi Baby, said: "Flight WW1022 from Belfast International Airport to Birmingham International Airport, declared an emergency landing due to a cracked side window.

"The aircraft landed safely at Birmingham International Airport and at no point were passengers or crew in danger."
