Birmingham City Council leader Sir Albert Bore is to stand down as chairman of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, according to reports.

He is set to leave the £52,000-a-year two-days-a-week job when his current contract comes to an end in November.

Sir Albert, who also receives £65,000 per annum as council leader, has been under pressure from some Labour councillors to give up the hospital post earlier and concentrate full-time on the task of running the city council.

When he took over as council leader last May, he said that he did not see a problem in continuing in the two roles.

Sir Albert has served six years as the Trust’s chairman, and overseen development of the £545 million Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the largest NHS project ever undertaken in Birmingham.
