Birmingham's coroner has warned drivers about the dangers of reversing out of drives following the death of a partially-sighted pensioner.

Leslie Webster was knocked down and then run over by a woman after she backed her Land Rover Discovery out of the drive of her Birmingham home in January.

In recording that Mr Webster died as a result of a road traffic accident Aidan Cotter said: "Anybody who is reversing a vehicle and cannot see that the road behind them is clear should arrange for someone to guide them out."

He said it was likely Mr Webster, who normally walked with a white stick and had gone to the local shops, was on the pavement when he was struck by the vehicle.
