Traders in a Birmingham suburb yesterday spoke of their shock at the killing of a father-of-six who was stabbed to death outside his business.
Amjad Khan, aged 34, is thought to have been stabbed in the back up to five times during the attack which happened outside his business in Alum Rock Road, Alum Rock.
Mr Khan, of Ash Road, Alum Rock, had been married for about 15 years and had run his store, Five Star Home Entertainment, for several years. He was attacked just after 3pm on Saturday. He was taken to Heartlands Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
Zaheer Abbas, the 21-yearold co-owner of A.K. Superstore, said: "People in the community are really upset about what has happened. Amjad used to come in here about twice a day and shop for his fruit and veg.
"It was obviously a big shock when we saw him outside his shop lying there after he had been stabbed. We saw the ambulance take him away."
Lilleth Ricketts, who is 58 and owns Noir Hair Salon, said: "It was shocking to hear the news of what has happened. I just couldn't image that would happen right on our doorstep. I've been here nearly 20 years and the area has changed over that time, it used to be quiet."
Barber Sajid Rashid, of Sajid's Gents Hairdressers, said he knew Mr Khan as a fellow trader and described him as a "good guy".
"We went outside and it looked like he was dead. He was a good guy and he was always good to us," said Mr Rashid.
Det Sergeant Vicky Seville said officers were keeping an open mind about the motive for the attack and appealed for witnesses.
"This happened on a busy main road and there must be people who saw what happened," she added. Witnesses can contact police on 0845 113 5000. n A 28-year-old man from Birmingham was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder.
