The streets of Birmingham thronged with revellers enjoying the sights and sounds of summer as carnival celebrations came to the city.
Families saw the best of Northfield, Kings Heath and Acocks Green as the three suburbs staged their own celebrations over the weekend.
In Northfield, a duck and dog display, karate and kick boxing demonstrations, marching banks and dance shows entertained the crowds at the area’s 23rd carnival.
There was something for everyone at the Kings Heath festival with market stalls, a floral trail and live entertainment on offer.
And it was more of the same in Acocks Green, with stalls and events based around a theme of children’s books of the world.
Betty Howard, chairman of Northfield’s voluntary carnival committee, which started by residents to make something positive happen in their neighbourhood, said: “It was absolutely brilliant. Everyone had a fantastic time.
“Over the years the carnival has grown bigger and better, it’s a true community event we are very proud of.”
Kings Heath Business Association deputy chairman Paul Tyrrell said: “The day was a tremendous success. It brought a real sense of community to Kings Heath that hasn’t been there for a long time.”
York Road was closed off and around 50 stalls set up in the middle of the street, which attracted thousands of visitors.
And Coun Iain Bowen, (Lib Dem, Acocks Green) said he was delighted with how his area’s big day passed off.
“It all went very well,” he said. “Lots of people enjoyed themselves and it was a great day out.”
