Walsall might be employing a pared-down version of squad rotation for tonight's LDV Vans Trophy match with Wycombe Wanderers at Bescot but, according to their manager and captain, commitment for the competition remains total.
Player-manager Paul Merson has already revealed that around a third of the side that started Saturday's
League One victory over Hartlepool United will be rested ahead of an exacting festive programme but added that his side are still paying complete attention to the regional quarter-final.
"We're taking the match very seriously but there will be changes," Merson said. "I can't see myself playing, I can't see Simon Osborn playing and Daniel Fox won't be fit."
The latter picked up ankle and knee injuries at the weekend and while he will not be available for tonight he is expected to recover in time for his side's next game on Boxing Day.
Winger Ishmel Demontagnac is suspended but on the positive side striker Jorge Leit?o has returned from his one match ban and should start this evening.
Midfielder Mark Kinsella will come in for Osborn, Michael Standing should come back for his first match since the end of October. Teenager Alex Nicholls could continue up front three days after making his full-debut.
While Fox won't be playing the 19-year-old captain was keen to stress the importance of the the Trophy to his club's season.
"There's no doubt Wycombe present a real threat to us on Tuesday and that we face a very tough game," Fox said.
"We're not going to win the FA Cup, but this is a competition we can win. And what a day out that would be for everybody connected with the club.
"We've got to be thinking in those terms - reaching the play offs and this competition final. We have got the ability in the squad to do that.
"Our home form is good and everyone saw what we are capable of away from home when we went down to ten men at Forest last week."
Meanwhile Wycombe midfielders Sergio Torres and Rob Lee picked up knocks on Saturday and are struggling. Goalkeeper Frank Talia (shoulder) is doubtful but James Faulkner, Steven Gregory and Ikechi Anya are available. ..SUPL:
